In the comfort of your home, your pet will experience minimal stress during its physical which will allow for a more thorough and accurate exam than they would receive in a hospital.  In addition to a nose to tail comprehensive exam, detailed orthopedic, ocular, neurologic exams will also be performed.

Approximately 10 million pets are lost each year in the US.  Millions of those pets end up in animal shelters and tragically many will be euthanized if they can’t be identified.  The best and most reliable way to prevent the heartbreak of a lost pet and to ensure that your pet is safely returned home, is to have your pet microchipped. A microchip is a small chip that is the size of a grain of rice and carries an id number that can be scanned to identify a lost pet.  The chip is insterted under the skin between the shoulder blades using a large needle.  The proceedure only takes a few seconds and is surprisingly painless.  Microchip implantation can be done safely along with all other services performed at your wellness care visit.

One of the best ways to detect  abnormalities or underlying illnesses in your pet is to perform screening bloodwork every year.  Basic blood testing will check for common diseases such as diabetes, kidney, liver and Thyroid disease and will screen for any blood cell abnormalities.  Early detection and intervention are essential to maintain health and improve outcomes.  Specific tests will be tailored to your pets age and any symptoms they may be having.

A fecal examination will test for internal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, giardia, whipworms, coccidia and more.  Most of these parasites are spread through feces but puppies and kittens can be born with them or can be infected through their mothers milk.  Because some of these parasites are transmissible to humans, it is important to run a fecal to ensure that your pet is parasite free!

Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Aids (FIV) are highly contagious viruses that are spread through close contact and bite wounds.  These diseases can cause severe chronic illness and death.  Cats will be tested as needed depending on history and lifestyle.

Heartworm disease is an often overlooked but deadly disease in cats. Fleas can not only infect your pet, they can also infest your home and even bite you!  Both fleas and ticks suck blood and can carry diseases in their saliva that can cause illness.  It is important that your kitty receives a topical or oral monthly prevention to prevent these parasites!
